On November 16, 2023, Prof. Charles Steven Melching, the associated Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Sediment Research (IJSR) visited IRTCES, and gave a lecture on "Fox River Pollution in Wisconsin, USA: Solutions and Experiences for Clean Sediment Management" in the Global Vision Forum of IWHR.

Professor Charles Steven Melching introduced the Fox River sediment remediation project, elaborated on typical technical solutions and case experiences for contaminated sediment cleanup, and hopes to provide reference experiences for China’s future river sediment pollution control through introducing relevant typical cases in USA, aiming to jointly explore and research optimal solutions for river sediment pollution management.

During the Q&A session, experts conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on: comparative advantages of dredging and capping approaches, resource recycling of materials like soil bags and pipelines, control measures for point-source and non-point-source pollution, and environmental impact assessment methodologies.

Researchers and postgraduates of China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), IRTCES, and more than 100 domestic and foreign experts and scholars participated in the exchange.
