On 29 July 2009, Mr. Chen Lei, Minister of Water Resources of P. R. China met with Mr. Erdelen, Assistant Director General of UNESCO, who is invited to participate in the 25th anniversary of International Research & Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation.
China and UNESCO have long-term cooperation on studies of sedimentation and technical training has been conducted with expertise of UNECO and Chinese experts. China has successfully implemented the International Hydrological Program and made great contribution to the evaluation of impact of global climate change on regional water resources. The two parties exchanged views on initiating new project for furthering cooperation.
Other participants include representatives from General Office, Department of International Cooperation, Science & Technology of the ministry, National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research as well as International Research & Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation. H. E. Abhimayu Singh, the Representative of UNECO in China also attends the meeting.
