IWHR President,Director of IRTCES Kuang Shangfu Visits DSI Director

   IWHR President Kuang Shangfu, Director of IRTCES, head of expert delegation of China Ministry of Water Resources for the 5th World Water Forum, visited Mr. Haydar Koçaker, Director of DSI on the sidelines of the forum at Sütlüce Convention Center on March 17, 2009. Mr. Erkmen, a senior advisor with Turkey SOYAK Holding was present at the meeting. Jia Jinsheng, Vice President of IWHR, Ruan Benqing, Director of Department of Management, Planning and Programming and staff members of Division of International Cooperation also attended the visit.
    President Kuang Shangfu expressed great appreciation to Director Haydar Koçaker for sparing time to meet Chinese delegation despite his tight schedule and described three main objectives for the visit: Firstly, extending thanks for support and help from DSI in China’s bidding for Special Session of Risk Management of Water Infrastructure Project Related to Mega Natural Disasters; Secondly, taking the opportunity of BH Project jointly built by IWHR and Turkey Soyak Holding to further strengthen exchange and cooperation in areas of hydropower and renewable energies in the future; Thirdly, hoping to establish strategic partnership between International Research and Training on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES ) and Turkey Research and Training on Erosion and Sedimentation to conduct all-round exchange and cooperation; Fourthly, hoping to gain support from Turkish counterpart in our bidding for ICOLD Chairman in 2009.
    Director Haydar Koçaker expressed welcome for President Kuang’s visit. He said there would be broad prospects for hydropower development between both sides and many sound hydropower projects had been built in Turkey by some companies with Soyak as an excellent example. In regard to sedimentation research, he will ask relevant departments to keep in contact with IWHR to further conduct substantial cooperation.
    Finally, President Kuang invited Director Haydar Koçaker to visit IWHR at his convenient time and the meeting, which has laid a solid foundation for further cooperation, concluded in an amicable atmosphere.
