IRTCES News, Jan.12: The fellowship meeting between the IRTCES and the UNESCO was held in Beijing on Jan.12. The Director and Representative, Office of the Representative to DPR Korea, Japan, Mongolia, PR of China and Republic of Korea, Mr. Y. Aoshima and other 7 officers from the office, Vice Director General of the Department of International Scientific and Cooperation, Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs. Meng Zhimin, Secretary General of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, Mr. Tian Xiaogang and Division Chief, Ms. Shen Rong were invited for the meeting.        Dr. Kuang Shangfu, Director of the IRTCES presided over the meeting , honorary Chairman of Advisory Council of IRTCES, Dr. Lin Bingnan, Advisor, Mr. Dai Dingzhong, Secretary Genernal of IRTCES, Dr. Hu Chunhong, Chairman of Advisory Council, Dr. Wang Zhaoyin and all the staff of IRTCES attended the meeting. Dr. Kuang and Dr. Y. Aoshima gave their speeches at the meeting, respectively, they highly appreciated the IRTCES ' activities undertaken in 2005 and expressed their strong wishes for further cooperation and collaboration in the coming year.        The renewed agreement between the Chinese Government and the UNESCO signed in 2005 reiterated the objectives and responsibilities of IRTCES, defined the relationship between IRTCES and UNESCO, and confirmed the leading role of IRTCES in the field of international research on sedimentation. The renewed agreement will serve as an important international window for China 's water sector. It will also serve as a bridge and linkage for international sedimentation researchers to carry out academic communication, technical training and programme cooperation. In addition it expects to play important roles in promoting water resource and environment crisis faced by human beings, maintaining the social and economic sustainable development and building a harmonious society between human and nature.       Dr. Y.
