Working Summary Meeting for 2005 Held in IRTCES

     On January 18, the IRTCES held the working summary meeting for the  year of 2005. The Vice Director and Secretary General of IRTCES, Hu Chunhong made a summary to the work in 2005, meanwhile, disposed the work in 2006.

　　Dr. Hu reviewed the achievements that the centre obtained in  2005 in an all-round way and also proposed new goal and demand for the work in 2006.

　　In 2005, IRTCES achieved significantly, especially, the signing of agreement on IRTCES between the UNESCO and the Ministry of Water Resources, P.R. of China, this will further promote international cooperation and exchange in the field of erosion and sediment management, fully exploit the role of IRTCES in research, consultation, training, communication and cooperation in erosion and sediment control.

In 2005, Secretariat of International Sediment Initiative (ISI) was set up in the IRTCES while continually implementing the existing international and domestic projects. This will bring the new opportunities and challenges to the capacity building of IRTCES.

In 2005, a new research base of IRTCES, the Pearl River Research Centre, was established in the south part of China, this is the third one and other two established in Hangzhou and Jingzhou, respectively. It will further expand the field of IRTCES for research and training.

The International Training Workshop on watershed eco-environment and water resources management, Sept.11-19, 2005, WASER/IAHR-APD/IRTCES study tour to the Three Gorges Project, August 8 to 15, 2005, the US-China Workshop on Advanced Computational Modeling in Hydro-science and Engineering, Sept. 20 2005, Oxford, Mississippi, USA and many other international activities organized by IRTCES, have promoted international exchange, cooperation and strengthened friendship among the scientists and engineers in the field of erosion and sedimentation in the world.

All staffs of IRTCES and some invited leaders and experts attended the meeting. All of the experts and former leaders of IRTCES for the meeting have expressed their satisfaction and congratulation to the development of IRTCES in 2005 and wish the IRTCES to play a more important role in promoting international exchange, research, training and cooperation.
