Research cooperation between the IRTCES and the NCCHE has been continued by exchange visits of scientists individually for more than 10 years. It has been found to be mutually beneficial. During the visit of NCCHE by Professor Dai Dingzhong and Professor Tan Ying on 9/22/2003, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish a formal Scientific Research Cooperation Agreement to accelerate the advancement in computational modeling technologies in both countries. This US-China Workshop on Advanced Computational Modeling in Hydroscience and Engineering is the first official event organized under the cooperative agreement. It is to be held at the NCCHE on the Oxford Campus of the University of Mississippi on September 19-21, 2005 with a Post-Workshop Tour on September 22-30, 2005. Future activities of similar nature are to be held alternatively in China and USA. This workshop is to be participated by 20 representatives from each country, to be invited by the Organizing Committee.

The Central Theme is to Advance the Cost-Effective Research, Engineering and Management Tools of the 21st Century in Hydroscience and Engineering through Research Cooperation and Technology Exchange between Researchers in China and USA. The establishment of longer term cooperative research between participating institutions and professionals are fostered.

A Special Emphasis of each Invited Paper are critical assessments of the state of the art and the future development of models; as well as the future needs of models from the viewpoint of prospective users including administrative officials, planners, managers, project engineers, et.al. It is also planned that discussions among the participants are facilitated to further exemplify the value of this workshop.
