National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering -USA and International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation-China
CCHE2D Short Course Program
Venue: International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES), Beijing, China
Date: November 24, 2006
Introduction:
The NCCHE (National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering) offers this Short Course to introduce the state of the art computational simulation model, CCHE2D for hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling in rivers. This advanced computational simulation software system has been comprehensively verified and validated and is capable of conducting scientific research, engineering analyses, design and optimization of a variety of hydroscience and engineering problems of the real-life world. It has been adopted by more and more governmental, academic and private research and engineering institutions, on cooperative or beta-testing basis. CCHE2D has been successfully applied to solve a large number of research problems including free surface flows in rivers and channels, erosion of stream bed and banks, sediment transport and deposition, bank protection and channel stabilization structural designs, channel migration and meandering, vegetation effects, river restoration, pollutant transport with chemical reaction and fate processes, ecological and environmental impact assessments, etc. However, the initial version will include the most basic capabilities. More sophisticated capabilities will be covered by Advanced Short Courses to be offered in the near future.
During this one-day Short Course, physical principles, numerical techniques, Graphic User Interface (GUI) and Mesh Generator of CCHE2D shall be introduced, and verification and validation process and application examples shall be covered. Also emphasized is the participants’ hands-on practice experience. Therefore, each participant is required to bring his/her own laptop or notebook computer.
Participants of this Short Course shall learn how to simulate river flow and sediment transport of real-life problems in complex natural environment. All participants successfully passing the Short Course shall receive a certificate issued by NCCHE. The most outstanding participants of the short course shall be awarded a copy of this state of the art simulation software system, free of charge. Others can obtain a copy at a substantially reduced cost.
