Since the establishment of IRTCES, it has
undertaken and completed the organization, management, coordination, and
specific research work of multiple major domestic research, information
exchange, fund, database construction projects, including:
(1)
Responsible for and completing the research on the mathematical model of
sediment in the Three Gorges Project of the Yangtze River in the national
"Seventh Five Year Plan" and "Eighth Five Year Plan" key
projects; Undertake the daily work of the Three Gorges Project sediment expert
group; Participate in the formulation and implementation of sediment research
plans for the Three Gorges Project during the "Ninth Five Year Plan"
and "Tenth Five Year Plan" periods, and undertake some specialized research
tasks.
(2)
Undertook the technical management and organizational implementation of two
Yellow River water and sediment change research fund projects, each lasting
five years, conducting research on the causes, impacts, and countermeasures of
water and sediment changes in the middle reaches of the Yellow River.
(3)
Undertake the daily management work of the national "Eighth Five Year
Plan" key scientific and technological research project "Yellow River
Governance and Water Resources Development and Utilization".
(4)
Undertake research or consulting work on sediment issues related to the cascade
development of the Jinsha River, the management of the estuary of the Yellow
River, and other engineering projects.
(5)
Participated in and was responsible for the National Natural Science Foundation
of China's "Ninth Five Year Plan" major research project
"Research on the Mechanism of the Impact of Sediments on River
Disasters".
(6)
Guide and fund the work of the National Sedimentation Information Network. Since
its establishment in 1982, it has developed 58 network member units, including
relevant institutes such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, State Power
Corporation, Ministry of Transport, major river basin institutions of the
Ministry of Water Resources, major research institutes, colleges and
universities, survey and design institutes, and provincial-level units in 18
provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions including Sichuan, Shandong,
Guangdong, Xinjiang, and Yunnan. Since its establishment, a large amount of
work has been carried out, editing and publishing a total of 67 issues of the
online magazine "Sediment Information" with over 5.78 million words.
Organized national network member units to compile and publish all relevant literature
abstracts on river sediment and soil and water conservation from 121
provincial-level and above public publications from 1976 to 1996. Among them,
the literature abstracts from 1949 to 1981 (including articles on sediment
research of the Three Gorges Project) have been translated into English and
published internally. Published 9 translated collections of papers from the 3rd
International Symposium on River Sediments. The biennial technical, information
exchange, and work conferences of the Information Network have been held in
nine cities including Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Beijing, Chongqing, Yichang,
Jingzhou, and Urumqi. The information work has won the second prize of the
exemplary organization of document pre-processing work of the Ministry of Water
Resources and the second prize of the information literature publication of the
Ministry of Water Resources.
(7) Responsible for the management of the Qianning Sediment
Science Award Fund Office, which has been awarded 6 times.
(8) Undertook the editing task of the "China River
Sediment Bulletin" assigned by the Ministry of Water Resources.
(9) Undertake the daily work of the sediment testing research
group of the Hydrological Bureau of the Ministry of Water Resources.
(10) The "National Conference for the Promotion of
Sedimentation Research Work" initiated by the "Center" and other
units and associations has been held twice in Beijing and Zhengzhou. Its
purpose is to unite domestic sediment scholars, strengthen cross departmental
and cross industry horizontal connections, exchange work progress, improve
scientific research level, and better serve production.
(11) Under the guidance and funding of UNESCO, the 'Center'
also purchased many publications related to sediment and erosion. Many foreign
organizations such as the United States Geological Survey donated and exchanged
a large number of sediment related literature, and established a preliminary
library.
